School Groups

Providing educational opportunities to school groups is a cornerstone of the Science Center’s mission to support student exploration and inspiration in science, technology and math education.  In addition to the exhibit gallery experiences, the Center will offer the following:

• Classroom and Laboratory programs in the Pfizer Foundation Science Discovery Center that support the CT Science Frameworks. Teachers will have web access to pre visit, visit and post visit materials.  In addition,
• Our website will also include classroom lessons, literature links, integrated lessons, performance tasks, embedded tasks, career connections, website links and more that will enhance the teaching and learning of these standards.
• Science demonstrations and activities in the exhibit galleries and opportunities for students to communicate with science professionals
• Digital 3D science films

We anticipate accepting reservations in
January 2009 for 2009 field trips.

Field Trip Costs
The Science Center anticipates a student admission fee of $8.00 which will provide access to all of the exhibit galleries and science demonstrations.  Various science program or theatre show options will be available for additional charges of between $4.00 and $7.00 per student.  All teachers will be admitted free of charge.  Chaperones will be admitted at student pricing rates with a recommended ratio of one chaperone per eight students (fee included in billing)

Teacher Workshops
It is recommended that teachers planning a field trip to the Science Center first attend one of our professional development workshops for field trips These workshops are opportunities for teachers to learn about the field trip programs at the Science Center and the pre and post visit materials for use in their classroom.  These resources compliment the exhibit experiences and align with the Connecticut State Science Framework Standards.
