Partners in Science Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration, Mystic, CTThe Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration is located in Mystic, CT. Its goal is to introduce the marine world to students through a variety of small and large group activities that support the 2004 CT Core Science Curriculum Framework. Small groups can take advantage of classroom programs, many of which feature literature tie-ins or offer hands-on activities such as squid dissections. Students can also enjoy virtual reality and interactive games in the Immersion theatre. Larger groups can have guided or self-guided tours of the many exhibits and outdoor habitats, a Challenge of the Deep tour, behind the scenes tours, and watch sea lion shows. The Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration is home to the Jason Project. Every year, the Jason Project studies a different environment on the earth and takes selected students and faculty to that location. Curricular materials are developed and distributed to interested schools to prepare for the live broadcasts from the location. Contact the Aquarium for more information about this special program. The staff is continually updating the museum’s programs and will also develop programs to fit the needs of individual schools. This list is not intended to be a complete listing. For complete descriptions and more information visit their website: www.mysticaquarium.org Teacher Preparation: No specific teacher preparation is required though the staff will work with teachers to pick the appropriate program to support their curricula.
